AL 2003™ is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel. The alloy fits between 316L and 2205 in corrosion resistance. It can be considered as a cost effective alternate to both materials, as well as 317L stainless.
With a nominal chemistry of 20% chromium, 3% nickel, 1.7% molybdenum, and 0.17% nitrogen, AL 2003™ contains a balanced structure of austenite and ferrite. Its reduced levels of chromium and molybdenum, in comparison to 2205, provide greater resistance to the formation of detrimental phases such as sigma phase. Welding with 2209 filler is suggested.
