2205 is a duplex stainless steel that was developed as a cost effective solution to common corrosion problems encountered with 300 series stainless steels. The duplex structure of 2205 gives it significantly higher strength than 316L stainless. As a result, lighter gages of 2205 can often be utilized creating weight savings without sacrificing structural strength.
