Weight Limits

Overview

In the U.S., the federal gross vehicle weight (GVW) limit is 80,000 lb without special permits. Actual freight capacity depends on trailer type, axle configuration, and state rules.

How It Works

Your shipping method (parcel, LTL, flatbed, step deck) dictates practical freight limits. Very dense or long loads may require specialized equipment and/or permits coordinated through your sales representative.

Steps:

  1. Provide accurate total weight and dimensions during quoting/ordering.
  2. If your load is exceptionally heavy/long, request routing assistance from Sales.
  3. Approve any special-permit charges before dispatch.

Helpful Tips

Typical flatbed freight capacity is about 46,000–50,000 lb of cargo, depending on trailer. Use permits for heavier moves as needed.

Multi‑state moves can have varied axle and bridge limits—plan ahead to avoid delays/fines.
