Toledo's Story
Welcome to Toledo: a city shaped by industry, inspired by innovation, and filled with Midwestern charm.
Located along the Maumee River near the western edge of Lake Erie, Toledo has long served as a gateway between the Great Lakes and the American heartland. Founded in 1837, Toledo grew rapidly in the mid-1800s thanks to its location along the Miami and Erie Canal and the rise of the railroads. By the early 20th century, it became known as the “Glass Capital of the World” or the “Glass City”, home to pioneering companies like Libbey Glass and Owens-Illinois, whose legacy still shines in the city’s celebrated Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion.
Toledo’s industrial roots laid the foundation for a diverse modern economy that includes automotive manufacturing, advanced materials, medical technology, and aerospace. Today, it’s a proud blue-collar city with a strong focus on creation and craftsmanship, making it an ideal home for Rolled Alloys and our customers.
Beyond business, Toledo offers an exciting and accessible experience for visitors. Explore award-winning attractions like the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium, catch a Mud Hens baseball game downtown, or take a stroll through the dynamic Warehouse District. Foodies can enjoy everything from classic Hungarian hot dogs to creative chef-owned bistros, while art and culture lovers can explore galleries, concerts, and community festivals year-round.
With major highways, a regional airport, and easy access to Detroit and Cleveland, Toledo is both a convenient stop and a memorable destination.
